LONDON - Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty is to fly to Britain to visit her one-time reality TV nemesis Jade Goody, who is terminally ill with cancer, publicist Max Clifford said Saturday.

“She desperately wants to see her if she’s well enough,” Clifford said, adding that Goody was “on the edge of a precipice” health-wise as nurses struggle to help keep her pain under control.

“They have been speaking on the phone, Shilpa has been keeping in touch with her for months and they are good friends.

“It’s just a question of whether Jade is well enough.”

A nurse called husband Jack Tweed to her home last night after the former Big Brother contestant was panicking and in pain.

“She was in a bad way last night, she was panicking ... He went over and calmed her down and she went to sleep. She settled down and had a comfortable night,” he said.

And he said: “She has deteriorated, she is very weak. The answer is, who knows? We are on the edge of a precipice.”

Goody, 27, sparked uproar when she taunted Shetty on British TV’s “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2007, calling her “Shilpa Poppadom”.

The incident generated 45,000 complaints to the British TV regulator and almost caused a diplomatic incident, but Goody and Shetty later struck up a friendship.

When Goody appeared on an Indian version of “Big Brother” last year, she was forced to leave the show after test results showed she had cervical cancer.

She is now seriously ill but allowed magazines to cover her marriage to her boyfriend in return for money she says will secure the future of her two sons.
