In the last couple of years Indian politics has seen a lot of craze for the glamour world and Bollywood . Every time before the Lok Sabha Polls we get to hear streams of people from the Bollywood and the glamour world joining up different political parties and contesting elections and winning it too but then the track record of performance after that is pathetic to dismal .A new craze among the political parties is now is to target retired and successful cricketers from the Indian cricket . We offand on see retired Indian cricketers joining national political parties. Recently Dalip Vensarkar and Azaruddin have joined the Shiv Sena and the Congress and would be contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the respective parties.
In the past we had Kirti Azad and now names are doing rounds of Chetan Sharma and Anil Kumble joining the BJP .So far so good. But about the performance of all these star icons in Parliament. Lets judge from the track record of some of them who are at present members of the Indian parliament of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The performance of all of them so far has been terrible and is reflective across party line.
Govinda who won handsomely from the Congress Party from Mumbai in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections against veteran politician Ram Naik has posed only a single question in the Lok Sabha so far and his presence in the Lok Sabha was negligent .He was hardly to be seen around the parliament premises in the last five years. So far so good for the Congress party .Congress kayHath Aam Aadmi kay sath. These are the kind of Aam Aadmis which the Congress gets into the Indian parliament .What about the BJP which always cribs about the money and show blitz culture of the Congress. When it comes to the reality the BJP seems to be way ahead of the Congress. Its MP from Rajasthan the great Veeru of Sholay that is Dharmender. His performance was an absolute zero, no questions, no debates, and no calling motions anything. He was totally in cold storage in the last five years .Seen in parliament premises once in blue moon. Another BJP MP Vinod Khanna from Gurdaspur, Punjab has twenty questions to his record in the last five years in parliament and presence has been occasional.
Looking into the Rajya Sabha the great Basanti of Sholay and the BJP MP Hema Malini's track record in the parliament is way behind her dancing and acting fame. If she is unmatched and glamorous in her dance performances .Her attendance in parliament so far has been very dull .She has a total of 12 questions in her name in the parliament in the last five years. Another Bollywood veteran Raj Babbar elected in 2004 Lok Sabha from UP from SP has 5 questions and 11 debates in last five years to his name.
Such a historic performance 1 question per year. No doubt a remarkable achievement .Jaya Prada another Bollywood fame and Lok Sabha MP from UP from SP seems to shine among the Bollywood stars in the Indian parliament . 295 questions and 31debates to her name in the last five years. Which nodoubt in Bollywood standard is the zenith but in comparison to political standard would mean mediocre .But still far better then the rest.
The Only two Bollywood fame who has done well in Indian politics was late veteran politician Sunil Dutt of the Congress and Shatrugan Sinha of the BJP .They have shown the same kind of passion in politics like their films. The rest have proved that they are just show pieces . With Sanju Baba , Azharuddin , Kumble now doing rounds its seems Indian Parliament will havesome more glittering icons who would probably carry the past legacy of their seniors in the parliament at the cost of the tax payers money and the Aam Aadmi . But then who cares for the Aam Aadmi neither the Hath of Rahul Baba nor the Kamal of Grandpa Lal Krishna Advani.
